#WQC2023 – The Erin Christie story

In the 6th and final episode of the 2023 RYOBI #WontQuitCrew, we share the story of South African field hockey player Erin Christie.

For over a decade now, Erin has tirelessly dedicated herself to her national team. Despite numerous setbacks and disappointments on and off the field, she has epitomised good leadership and a won’t quit attitude that sees her now preparing to finish off her career at Paris 2024.

Initially Erin’s dream of just making her national team was seen as an audacious goal. But as she became more and more entrenched in the team through her tireless efforts, she was a natural choice to take up the reins when key senior players were stepping down.

Erin’s Olympic dreams were shattered in 2016, and with the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic ahead of the Tokyo Games, it looked like the dream would never become a reality.

As the sport of field hockey continues to grow and become more professional, Erin and her team are constantly reminded of their underdog status. But this will not stop them from giving their all in Paris next year. And we will be there to cheer them on all the way!
